Marie's Wicked Wednesday prompt #500, is for lists of Top 10 posts. "The Cunning Linctus" blog passed it's 10th anniversary in May this year, so I'll give Top 10 lists for both the 10 years and for 2021.
Lessons Learned
- I started blogging when I realised how much time I spent reading about other people's experiences and thoughts, but I wasn't contributing anything myself. The world is full of 'consumers' and very few 'producers'. As a 'sex' blogger, I had started writing personal journal reviews of my sexual experiences, especially since I had come out of sexless marriage and was discovering what I had been missing out on, through the world of transactional sex. So my public blogging started out as an extension of those reviews.
- I was very fortunate in finding some wonderfully helpful, very sexual ladies. I learned so many new things, but also in our discussions discovered how uninformed and inexperienced so many 'punters' were. So I started some sex educational type posts, which top my all-time list, confirming what these ladies had been telling me.
- As I started to see the interest my posts were gärning, I started to realise the need to promote my writing. I started thinking about key phrases and common search terms (this was before SEO became the tool de rigueur of top bloggers). This was also the time I was becoming more aware of a community of sex bloggers and discovered 'memes' as a means of promoting my work. Most recently, I started dabbling into Twitter as a communications medium. Which immediately leads into the next phase, use of 'Medium'.
- As I studied other's blogs (more than just reading), it got me thinking back to my professional work as a technical writer, and how so much of what I learnt and used back then, also applied to good blog writing.
- From memes and the challenges of writing styles, I took on some of the challenges of writing to a prompt instead of just from my own personal experiences. This led into tackling some pure fictional writing, and 70% of my 2021 list are fictional pieces.
My fictional series about the "Circle of Friends with Benefits" who end up going on a "Summer Holiday", totals 20 posts (3 appear on my 2021 Top 10 list). I've since compiled them into an 'epub' e-book that I'm considering publishing (free).
Thank You
I conclude with a very big THANK YOU, to all my readers, casual and regular. Of my readers, a special Thank You to those who took the time to submit a comment of feedback and encouragement, (of my c.200 posts I average 1 comment/post, from 140,000 page views). Thank you also to the community of sex bloggers for your encouragement and example.

It's always interesting to see what is trending over time -- I, too, have a "top 10" of all time, and it kind of surprises me what's on it, to tell the truth.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on ten years -- I'm at that mark as well, though it hardly seems possible! -- and best of luck in your future writing endeavors!
Wow! Ten years of blogging! Congratulations on that!
ReplyDeleteI love the reason why you started blogging, and also that you write sex educational posts. I think there are too little of those around.
