"Money, not love and sex, makes the world go round.
Love and Sex only makes it enjoyable and populated!"
1. Has money ever ruined a relationship for you?
Fortunately, no! Though I was in a 6 mth contract once where the company got into a cash-flow problem and wasn't paying my agent's invoices, about 2 mths in. I worked on in hope, partly out of friendship with my manager and anticipation that the project I was on was close to completion and a big pay-out and back-pay. But it wasn't to be. A month after I finished, the company filed for bankruptcy and I finally only got 10c in the dollar - lost about $10K. My friend lost out much more than me, so rather than ruining our friendship, we just commiserated.
2. Have you ever successfully negotiated a pay raise?
Fortunately, I have never had to. All my full time jobs have been with large companies with good performance review and rewarding pay schemes and one with a profit sharing company share bonus scheme.
When contracting, I relied on a good agent to keep abreast of commensurate pay scales.
3. What piece of MONEY advice would you tell your younger self?
Nothing more than what I have already done:-
- work hard, work at what you enjoy;
- appreciate what you have and have achieved; aim to make a difference in world;
- don't get sucked in by 'get quick' schemes;
- live within your means; never 'splash your cash'; never get your 'honey' where you get your 'money';
- keep debt to the absolute minimum (house mortgage), pay your debt 'forward' so that when down times do happen (and they will), you have something already set aside for that 'rainy day';
- put savings aside for your retirement years - these days, after 50 years of work, you can still expect to live another 25-30 years;
- be compassionate and charitable to those who are less fortunate, "Live simply so that others can simply live?".
4. Have you ever paid for sex or been paid for sex?
Sadly its the only way I have enjoyed partnered sex for the last 14 years (see my post "Lustless").
5. Are you hiding a financial secret?
No, just private wrt details. My financial state is a comfortable, self-funded retiree. I have worked, saved and invested well and have our bases covered wrt potential future medical and age-care requirements. I have no desire to flaunt my 'wealth' nor my charitable giving.
